Institute of Qur’anic Studies is the only institute in Islamic World in which women memorizing Al-Qur’an as the main element. Such Institution does not exist in the Middle-East, because in some of middle east countries, to show a woman face out in the open is a sin, that is one of the reason that most women in Middle-East wearing a veil. In Islam, woman’s face is Aurat – part of woman’s body who cannot be seen by the other man other than her own family, such as parents, brother and sisters. In accordance to that case, some of them also said that woman’s voice is also Aurat, and men forbidden to hear woman’s voice which is including the Qur’an reading.
Institute of Qur’anic Studies nowadays facing a problem where the students with academic abilities have difficulties to get the scholarship, because the scholarships that offered in our college is directly just for the students with Qur’anic abilities. The other problem is the underpaid salary for the lectures; they have to get another lecturing job in order to fulfill their family’s basic need.
Institute of Qur’anic Studies is unprofitable institution or we may consider our school very poor, since our school is not self-reliant, our school has survived for the last 28 years, because of the kindness donation of the chairwoman of the Institute of Qur’anic Studies foundation, the charitable trust members and the Jakarta Governor’s office that provide us with financial assistance every year.
